Thailand Women destroyed the hosts Netherlands Women in a recent WT20I tri-series match (Scotland Women are the other side), where Thipatcha Putthawong was the hero for her hat-trick and a fifer. However, it was a special WT20I hat-trick where the bowler successively claimed four wickets in four balls.
In that fifth game of the WT20I tri-series at Utrecht last Friday (14 July), the visitors sent the hosts to bat first. Though the opener Sterre Kalis scored 51 not out off 49 balls (four fours), all other Dutch batters failed to score more than six runs as the hosts were bundled out for only 75 runs in 17.5 overs.
Thipatcha Putthawong recorded a special WT20I hat-trick
The 19-year-old left-arm spinner Thipatcha Putthawong finished with remarkable bowling figures of 3.5-0-8-5. In the 18th over of that innings, Putthawong dismissed Phebe Molkenboer (4), Mikkie Zwilling (0), Hannah Landheer (0), and Caroline de Lange (0) in four successive deliveries to end the Dutch innings.
4 wickets in 4 balls in WT20Is
Putthawong not only recorded the latest hat-trick in WT20I history but also became the third bowler to pick up four wickets in four consecutive balls. After German right-arm medium Anuradha Doddaballapur (vs Austria Women in 2020) and Botswana’s off-spinner Shameelah Mosweu (vs Mozambique Women in 2021), the Thai youngster inscribed her name into this special record book.
Earlier in that innings, Putthawong also dismissed Frederique Overdijk for just two runs. Interestingly, her all five victims in that game were bowled.
Despite the batting disaster, Sterre Kalis also entered the history book after scoring 68% runs of her entire team. It was the third-highest percentage of runs scored by a batter in a completed WT20I innings.
