While Sri Lanka and Netherlands already secured their places for the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India, Sri Lanka won the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023 last Sunday (9 July) after thrashing the Dutch side in the low-scoring Final of the tournament.
ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023 Final: Sri Lanka won by 128 runs
Harare hosted that Qualifier Final where Sri Lanka were sent to bat first. Sahan Arachchige (57), Kusal Mendis (43) and Charith Asalanka (36) provided vital support with the bat that helped the Lankan side to manage the first batting total of 233 runs in 47.5 overs before getting all out.
In reply, Maheesh Theekshana (4/31), Dilshan Madushanka (3/18) and Wanindu Hasaranga (2/35) destroyed the Dutch batting line-up as Netherlands were bundled out for only 105 runs in 23.3 overs. Only both the openers Vikramjit Singh (13), Max O'Dowd (33), and the no.8 batter Logan van Beek (20 not out) reached the double-digit figures in that chasing along with the extras (14).
Sri Lanka won that Final by 128 runs, while the left-arm pacer Dilshan Madushanka won the Player of the Match award for his outstanding bowling performance.
ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023: Brief details
Ten teams participated in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023, which Zimbabwe hosted. Apart from the hosts Zimbabwe, the 1996 World Cup champions Sri Lanka and Netherlands, the two-time ODI World Cup winners West Indies, Ireland, Scotland, UAE, USA, Nepal and Oman also participated in this tournament.
As only two spots were available for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, only both the finalists of the Qualifier would advance to the main competition. Sri Lanka and Netherlands have set their places for the 13th edition of the ODI Cricket World Cup by reaching the Qualifier Final.

India will host the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 between 5 October and 19 November 2023. The full schedule of the 13th edition of the ODI Cricket World Cup was recently released officially. Before the qualifier, the hosts India and the top other seven teams from the 2020–2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League directly qualified for the forthcoming ODI World Cup.
