The 24-year-old Indian right-arm pacer Shivam Mavi made his international debut during the three-match T20I series opener between the hosts India and the visitors Sri Lanka in Mumbai on Tuesday (3rd January) night and played a heroic role for his team to secure a close 2-run win. He became the third Indian bowler to claim a four-wicket haul on his T20I debut.
After Sri Lanka sent the hosts to bat first, India managed to score 162/6 in 20 overs. The 24 years and 38 days old Shivam Mavi played crucial roles in providing a good start for the hosts during the Sri Lankan innings as he took the first two wickets (Pathum Nissanka 1 and Dhananjaya de Silva 8).
Later, in the 15th over, Mavi dismissed the dangerous-looking Wanindu Hasaranga (21 off 10 balls). Maheesh Theekshana (1) was the last victim of his final over of the match as Mavi ended with the bowling figures of 4-0-22-4.
At the end of the thrilling final ball of the match, India managed to all out Sri Lanka for 160 runs (20 runs) as the hosts took the 1-0 lead in the series with that 2-run victory.
