During the fourth Test of the five-match India vs England 2023/24 Test series at Ranchi, Indian cricketer Ravindra Jadeja created a new history in the World Test Championship (WTC). The Indian all-rounder became the first cricketer in WTC history to score 1000 runs and also pick up 100 wickets.

In the 2024 Ranchi Test, where the hosts India won by five wickets and secured the five-match crucial home Test series by leading it 3-1 with one to go, Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja had an important contribution with the ball in hand. In the first innings of that Test match, Jadeja picked up four wickets. Although the left-handed batter only scored 16 runs in that Test (12 & 4), the left-arm spinner picked up five wickets (4/67 & 1/56).

With his only wicket in the third innings of the 2024 Ranchi Test, Ravindra Jadeja completed his 100 wickets in the World Test Championship. He became the 10th overall player and third Indian cricketer (after Ravichandran Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah) to complete 100 WTC wickets.

However, Jadeja already scored 1500+ WTC runs before that Ranchi Test. At the end of that match, which was his 30th Test, the left-handed middle-order batter scored 1536 runs in WTC.

With 1500+ runs and 100 wickets, Jadeja became the first cricketer in WTC history to complete 1000 runs and 100 wickets.

Other closest players

Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is also very close to becoming the next player to record 1000 runs and 100 wickets in WTC history. While the off-spinner has already picked up 165 wickets in 34 WTC matches, the right-handed batter has also scored 948 WTC runs.

Meanwhile, among the 45 1000+ WTC run-scorers, English cricketers Ben Stokes and Joe Root are in the closest positions to complete 100 WTC wickets. While Stokes has taken 67 WTC wickets after scoring 2907 WTC runs, Root has scored 4197 WTC runs (only 4000 run-score in WTC history) and picked up 44 WTC wickets.
