Is the Takeover of world cricket by IPL franchises a good thing?

It is no secret that the cricket run around the world is now run by the IPL franchises and they are the most influential people in the Cricketing world. And the expansion has been happening for years and it is not a new thing that has been happening. The number of T20 leagues that have been happening around the world and the participation of the IPL teams in those leagues is a sign in that direction.

And recently it has been reported in England and Australia that the IPL franchises have been in contact with the top England and Australian players that they should have a year long contract with them that they should play cricket for all the teams they will have in the various leagues around the world and the salary being offered to them Is huge. Between 40 Crores to 50 crores per year is being offered to these players. So, let’s talk about whether this is a good thing or not and let’s look at both the aspects.

Why it can be a good thing?

As is the case with everything in life, there are both good and bad aspects to everything and it is similar in this case as well as much as some people would want to say that this is a bad thing. The IPL has truly changed the game and there is no escaping the reality that the money that the IPL pays is so much more than their international boards could ever pay them. The top players get around 15 crores rupees for just 2-3 months or cricket and then they play for the whole year they get 15 crores from their respective boards. It will be a good thing for the players as they will get to earn much more money than before and that is always good. It will also be good for those leagues and the boards that host them as some of the top players will play for them. It will also be a good thing for the broadcasters for those leagues because they will earn more as the top players will play in those leagues.

Why it may not be a good thing?

Now that we have looked at the good things about this idea , now let’s talk about the things that some of the cricket experts have been saying and they have some valid points. The first negative thing that can happen if this actually happens is that international cricket will almost be non existent because for 7 months in tfectear all these leagues will be played and if the players have a yearly contract then that means that they will not be able to play for their nation and that is not acceptable in cricket because it has not become football yet where the club football is most important. And one more thing is that the players will be at the will and commend of these teams and the boards that have made them who they are will lose control of them and this is something no board wants. And a monopoly by anyone is not good as the IPL teams will be able to do as they please and everybody has to follow.

The conclusion is that this will not be a good thing for world cricket because international cricket is the most important part of cricket and every player wants to play for their nation and especially in test cricket. Test cricket cannot be compromised with and this format will do it at that. The IPL teams can have players play for them but not at the cost of international cricket.
