On a day when 2 of the great Indian cricketer’s Virender Sehwag and Diana Edulji have been inducted in the ICC Hall of Fame, it would be a great opportunity to look into the list of all the 9 players from India that have been inducted in the ICC Hall of Fame so far. The list of players in the ICC Hall of Fame are truly some of the all time greats. It is wonderful that for the first time a woman cricketer from India has been inducted in Diana Edulji.
Let’s look at the list of all the 9 cricketers who have been inducted in the ICC Hall of Fame so far
Sunil Gavaskar (2009)
Sunil Gavaskar was inducted in the ICC Hall of Fame In the year 2009. He was among the first group of Indian cricketers to be inducted. The reasons for his induction are known to everyone. He was the original little master who in 125 Text Matches that he played in scored 10122 runs with 34 Hundreds. He was the first man to cross 10,000 test runs and the first to 34 Test hundreds. Sunil Gavaskar will forever be one of the greatest of all time
Bishan Singh Bedi (2009)
The second Indian cricketer to be inducted in the ICC Hall of Fame was Bishan Singh Bedi. He was also inducted in 2009 along with Sunil Gavaskar. Unfortunately the world lost Bishan Singh Bedi a few weeks back and he leaves behind a rich cricketing legacy. He played 67 Test Matches for India and in those he took 266 Wickets. He was considered the best left arm spinner in the world and by looking at him so many left arm spinners around the world have started bowling. Bishan Singh Bedi was someone who was also the captain of India for a while
Kapil Dev (2010)
The 3rd Indian cricketer to be inducted in the ICC Hall of Fame was the evergreen Kapil Dev and it was the following year in 2010. Now, Kapil Dev was inducted for a lot of reasons. Firstly he took 434 Test Wickets which was a record for a fast bowler at that time. He also scored more than 9000 international runs and also took 253 ODI wickets. He was one of the greatest all rounders to ever play the sport. He also led the Indian team to winning the 1983 World Cup.
Anil Kumble (2015)
It was a 5 year wait before another Indian player got into the ICC Hall of Fame. The criteria for getting in the ICC Hall of Fame is that the player should be retired from International cricket for 5 years. Anil Kumble was inducted in 2015 and the reasons were obvious. He is the highest wicket taker for India in international cricket and in both Test and ODI Cricket separately. He has taken 629 Test Wickets and 337 ODI Wickets meaning 956 International wickets for India
Rahul Dravid (2018)
The wait for the next Indian player to be in the ICC Hall of Fame was 3 years as it was in 2018 that Rahul Dravid who is the Head Coach of the Indian team was inducted in the ICC Hall of Fame. As soon as he completed 5 years of his international retirement he was inducted. The reasons for his induction are as follows. He has made 13288 runs in Test Cricket and 10889 Runs in ODI Cricket m he is one of the few Indian batters to have more than 10,000 runs in both formats. He has scored more than 23,000 international runs.
Sachin Tendulkar (2019)
Sachin Tendulkar retired in November 2013 so as soon as it was 2019, the ICC announced that he will be in the ICC Hall of Fame. This was the easiest induction they have ever done. The reasons for his induction need not be said. He has scored more than 34,000 international runs. He has 100 international Hundreds in international cricket. He has played 664 Matches in International Cricket. He has 51 Test Hundreds and 49 ODI Hundreds. Sachin Tendulkar was an inspiration and he is the reason that the current generation of players are playing
Vinoo Mankad (2021)
In the year 2021, the legendary batter Vinoo Mankad was inducted in the ICC Hall of Fame. He is a player that was one of the earliest stars of Indian batting in Test Cricket. He played 44 Test Matches and in those Matches he made 2109 Runs. He made these runs against the toughest opponents and in the toughest of conditions. His induction was justified and hopefully more Indian players from the 1950s
Diana Edulji (2023)
Diana Edulji is the first woman cricketer from India to be inducted In the ICC Hall of Fame. She is deserved because she was the first star from Women’s cricket in India and all the players that followed her look to her as inspiration. She played 20 Test Matches which is a lot for Women’s cricket and in those she made 404 runs and she also took 63 Wickets. She also played in 34 ODIs and in those Matches she took 46 Wickets so she took 109 International Wickets in her career. She was also in the COA that ran Indian cricket for 3 years
Virender Sehwag (2023)
Virender Sehwag got his rightful place in the ICC Hall of Fame although it is a bit late. He is the naj that has changed the way cricket is played, especially test cricket. The other batters during his time and even before his time used to play defensive cricket. He came and just started smacking the Bowlers to all parts. He has scored 2 Test Triple Hundreds and a 294. He has made an ODI Double Hundred as well. He has made over 17000 International Runs. The impact which he made is incredible and he will walk into the All Time Indian Test X1 as the opener. Truly one of the most destructive batters of all time
