During the India vs Sri Lanka match at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, the hosts India created a new history by recording the highest total in the ODI World Cup history without a century.
After Sri Lanka sent the hosts India to bat first in that 33rd match at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 at Wankhede Stadium (Mumbai), India lost the opener and skipper Rohit Sharma for four runs on the second ball.
However, another opener Shubman Gill and former Indian skipper Virat Kohli had an 189-run partnership for the second wicket. While Gill scored run-a-ball 92 runs (11 fours and two sixes), Kohli scored 88 runs in 94 balls (11 fours).
Later, Shreyas Iyer scored 82 runs in 56 balls (three fours and four sixes), while Ravindra Jadeja had the crucial contribution of 35 runs in 24 balls (only four and only six).
With three 80+ scores (including one nervous 90), India recorded the highest total in the ODI World Cup history without any century
Despite no hundred, India managed to score 357/8 at the end of the 50 overs. It was the new ODI World Cup record for the highest total without a century. Previously, Pakistan held that record with 348/8 against the hosts England at Nottingham during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

Also, with the 357/8 total, India set their new highest ODI total record without any century. Their previous record was 351/5 against West Indies at Tarouba on August 1, 2023.
Coming back to the India vs Sri Lanka Wankhede match at the CWC 2023, Sri Lanka were bundled out for only 55 runs, as the hosts India won by 302 runs. With that victory, India became the first team to qualify for the Semi-finals in this tournament.
