Uganda create history by qualifying In T20 World Cup

Uganda men’s cricket team created history by securing their first tickets for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup as the African team will participate at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and USA. Due to their strong challenge, the Test-playing member Zimbabwe failed to qualify for the next men’s T20 World Cup.

Uganda qualified for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 after finishing in the second position at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Region Qualifier 2023. In the league stage of the competition, Uganda won five out of six games to finish the Qualifier with 10 points. Only the hosts Namibia beat them in the tournament by six wickets.

Uganda started the tournament with an eight-wicket win against Tanzania, before suffering their only defeat against the home side Namibia.

Then, Uganda played their first-ever international match against a Test member, Zimbabwe. In that game, Uganda stunned the Chevrons by five wickets.

In their last three matches in the Qualifier, Uganda comfortably beat Nigeria (by nine wickets), Kenya (by 33 runs), and Rwanda (by nine wickets) to secure the last spot for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

Although Zimbabwe and Kenya were strongly challenging them, Uganda didn’t give them any opportunity to make a comeback.
