After the BCCI Awards 2024 were announced, it is time to talk about the awards which are being given by the ICC which is the parent body of cricket. A recognition by the ICC means a lot to the players as it is given to them for the superlative performance throughout the year. The ICC Awards were given for the outstanding performances for the year 2023.
Let’s take a look at the Winners of the ICC Awards 2024
ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year – Pat Cummins
The Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for the ICC Cricketer of the Year went to none other than Pat Cummins. It could not have been anyone else because of all the glory he has taken Australia to in the year 2023. He won the ICC Test Championship then he retained the Ashes and finally he won the ICC ODI Cricket World Cup in India. Pat Cummins has proven to be one of the greatest captains of the modern era.
ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year- Virat Kohli
The ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year for the 4th time was Virat Kohli. He bounced back in style in 2023 and he got a lot of hundreds. He had a fabulous World Cup where he broke the record of Sachin Tendulkar and got to 50 ODI Hundreds. Virat Kohli has a few great years left in him and he would like to win more of these awards.
ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year – Usman Khawaja
The ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year was Usman Khawaja. He had tough competition from Ravichandran Ashwin and Joe Root. He was the best test batter for the year. He scored a total of 1210 runs from the 13 Test Matches he played in 2023. Usman Khawaja is getting to his best and now he will only get better.
ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year – Surya Kumar Yadav
The ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year was none other Surya Kumar Yadav. He is the best T20I batter in the world and the world number 1. There is no other batter who can as many shots as him and he has hit 4 T20I hundreds which is the joint second highest in history
ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year – Nat Sciver Brunt
The ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year is Nat Sciver Brunt of England. The year was dominated by the Australian team but Nat Sciver Brunt was the best player. She was phenomenal against Australia during the Ashes in England.
ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year – Chamari Attapattu
The Sri Lankan batter who has been a revelation is the ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year. She must have had such a great year that she beat the likes of Meg Lanning, Alyssa Healy and the others. She was the leading batter when Sri Lanka best New Zealand in a series.
ICC Men’s Associate Cricketer of the Year – Bas De Leede
The ICC Men’s Associate Cricketer of the Year is Bas De Leede from Netherlands. The Netherlands have a great history with this award as Ryan Ten Doeschate has won this award 2 times. This award is for that cricketer who has the potential to become a bigger star in the future.
ICC Women’s Associate Cricketer of the Year – Queentor Abel
The Kenyan Player is the ICC Women’s Associate Cricketer of the Year. She has picked up 30 wickets at an average of just 7.36 and made 476 runs at a batting average of 34. She will be a big star in the future
ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year – Hayley Matthews
The West Indies player is the best T20I cricketer in the world for women. She has been a key part of the West Indies team for some time. She is a big hitter and is also a handy off spinner
ICC Men’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year – Rachin Ravindra
The New Zealand batter is the ICC Men’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year. He is the most deserving winner as he has had a great 2023 in both ODI Cricket and T20 cricket. He will be a huge Star for New Zealand in the years to come.
ICC Women’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year – Phoebe Litchfield
This young cricketer from Australia is the emerging cricketer of the year. She beat Lauren Bell of England to win this coveted honor. She is very young and will be one of the best batters in the world
ICC Spirit of Cricket Award – Team Zimbabwe
The ICC Spirit of Cricket Award for the year was given to the Zimbabwe cricket team because of their great sporting behaviour of consoling Akeal Hossain after West Indies lost a very close match.
ICC Umpire of the Year – Richard Illingworth
The David Shepherd Trophy for the ICC Umpire of the Year was given to Richard Illingworth of England. He has been a great and a very calm Umpire. He is the second English Umpire to win this award after Richard Kettleborough.
