One of the destructive opening batsmen in T20l cricket Chris Gayle has reckons that his teammate Shimron Hetmyer has the ability to be a vital cog of West Indies in this decade unless and until he focuses on cricket more. The upcoming series that starts from 3rd March with 1st T20l against Sri Lanka also features 2 tests, 3 T20ls and 3 ODIs. For the white-ball series, Shimron Hetmyer was unable to meet the parameters of fitness level which in result he is not added to the West Indies squad. Chris Gayle in his recent conversation has said I have spoken to Shimron Hetmyer before and definitely likes to have conversation over cricket with him once again.
"West Indies cricket needs that type of talent, it’s just unfortunate, and hopefully, things work out, and these guys take it seriously. These guys are the future. A guy like Hetmyer, with his talent, he is the future. We need him, we definitely need his talent; we don’t want to lose such a talent, so if I see Hetmyer, I will try and have a talk with him. I’ve spoken to him before, and I will do so if I get the chance again.”
Chris Gayle along with Fidel Edwards (pacer) are making a comeback into the West Indies line-up for T20l fixtures. It is after 9 years when Fidel Edwards is recalled while Chris Gayle has played his last T20l game two years ago.
Here is that knock Shimron Hetmyer becomes the youngest West Indies to smashed hundred on home soil
For the test series Shimron Hetmyer has remove the corridor of uncertainty
After unable to clear the fitness test for the white-ball series it is likely to be possible Shimron Hetmyer will feature in the test series against Sri Lanka after the White-ball series. The director of West Indies Cricket board Jimmy Adams has said that in the recent fitness test, Shimron Hetmyer has met all requirements to make it to playing XI.
"We had done a press conference very recently, and we had explained that there were some players that had missed the minimum fitness standard for selection, two of those players have since met that standard, that’s Roston Chase and Shimron Hetmyer, They would now be available for selection for the next selection meeting around the Test matches coming up later in March," Adams said.
West Indies have announced his squads for the White-ball fixtures but is yet to announce his test series squad which starts from 21st March. Kieron Pollard would be captain for West Indies in T20l and ODI series while Dasun Shanaka captained Sri Lanka in T20l fixtures followed by Dimuth Karunaratne would be the captain in the ODI and Test Series.
