Since the Cricket World Cup is over, there are a lot of changes that happen within the team with regards to players and coaching staff. But this time there is an additional change that team India and it’s fans will see and that is the change of the main sponsor of the team. Byju’s an Indian educational learning app from Bangalore, have been signed as the new sponsors of the Indian Cricket team.
The current sponsors OPPO will no longer be the main sponsors of team Indian after the conclusion of the West Indies tour. This comes as a big surprise as the Chinese mobile manufacturing company OPPO, committed to a five year deal in the year 2017. OPPO paid a record sum of INR 1079 crores, which was double the base price of INR 538 crores which was set by the BCCI in 2017. According to the deal OPPO had to pay 4.61 crores for every match that India played in a bilateral series, and around 1.50 crores for every match in an ICC tournament.
According to the Times of India, the Reason OPPO decided not to be the main sponsor anymore was because they found the rights value to be extremely high and unsustainable. OPPO has decided to assign the reminder of the sponsorship to BYJU’S, which is allowed under the terms of the contract. BYJU’S will now hold the sponsorship rights for team India until 2022. The logo of BYJU’S will be on the jersey of both Men and female players of India, in all the three formats starting with the South African tour in September.
The founder and Chief Executive of BYJU’S said that this deal is a proud moment for their company and they are proud to be associated with the Indian Cricket Team. Byjun Raveendra stated “ We are proud to be the Indian Cricket Team Sponsors. Cricket is the heartbeat of all Indians we are thrilled to be an integral part of our beloved team. Just as Cricket inspires a billion budding dreams in India, we too as learning company are hoping to inspire the love of learning in every child’s heart”.
