During the PSL 2023 Eliminator 1, Pakistan superstar cricketer Babar Azam broke Caribbean legend Chris Gayle’s record of the fastest 9000 T20 runs.
In that game at Lahore, Babar Azam-led Peshawar Zalmi faced Shadab Khan-led Islamabad United. After United sent Zalmi to bat first, Zalmi scored 183/8. Opener Babar scored 64 runs off 39 balls (10 fours) as the right-handed batter was the highest run-scorer in that game.
In reply, United only managed to score 171/6 in 20 overs as Zalmi won by 12 runs. With that victory, Zalmi advanced to Eliminator 2, where they will face Lahore Qalandars on 17 March in the battle for a place in the Final of the tournament.
Fastest to 9000 T20 runs: Babar Azam reached faster than Chris Gayle
During his strong batting performance, Babar completed his 9000 T20 runs in only 245 innings. Breaking Chris Gayle’s record of 9000 T20 runs in 249 innings, Babar became the fastest batter to complete 9000 runs in T20 cricket.
At the end of the game, Babar scored 9029 T20 runs in 245 innings (254 matches).
