In the last of our Previews for the medal Contenders for India in different sports at the Commonwealth Games this year we will talk about wrestling and the fact that Indian wrestlers have a great history at these Games of winning lots of Medals and Gold Medals as well so this time all of India is hoping for not just multiple medals but a number of Gold Medals and the 12 members strong Wrestling team has the capability of doing just that. There are some great wrestlers and then there are some young wrestlers who will be looking to get themselves and the nation proud.
Before we talk about the medal hopes I just want to say it’s been a real privilege to write about all the different athletes and sports which can win Medals for India and I am so excited for these Commonwealth Games because India will be looking to win more than 109 Medals at these Games and create history once again. So, let’s talk about the Medal Contenders in wrestling.
Ravi Kumar Dahiya – Men’s 57 Kg
The silver medalist from Tokyo Olympics last year and the favorite to win the Gold Medal at these Games this year and Ravi Dahiya will be looking to cement his legacy as an all time great by winning a Gold Medal at these Games and dominating his opponents and making India proud once again. His comeback ability was seen by all last year and he will be hoping to repeat it this year.
Bajrang Punia – Men’s 65 Kg
Perhaps the most decorated Wrestler in this lot who has won medals at all the major international wrestling events and Bajrang Punia has won Gold at the Commonwealth Games before and he will be looking to do it again and yet again proved why he is one of the best in the world and will be for years to come. All of India will be behind him in his journey.
Deepak Punia – Men’s 80 Kg
He had a heartbreak at Tokyo Olympics last year where he missed out on a medal by a whisker and he will be looking to make things right in these Commonwealth Games and win the Gold Medal to get some relief and he can be happy because I am sure he must have been working so hard to win lots of medals for India.
Vinesh Phogat – Women’s 53 Kg
One of most decorated female wrestlers participating in these Commonwealth Games and her recent form and issues have not been ideal so she will be looking to make a statement at these Commonwealth Games and win the Gold Medal for India and prove to herself and to everyone else that she has still got it.
Sakshi Malik- Women’s 62 Kg
Sakshi Malik is also one of the most decorated female Wrestlers in India and she has won Commonwealth Games Medals before she will be looking to add yet another one and show everyone that her best is not behind her yet and she can still win medals for India. She will be determined at these Games.
Anshu Malik-Women’s 57 Kg
She is the world’s best in this category now and last year she was not at her best in the Tokyo Olympics but recently she won the silver Medal at the World Wrestling Championship so she will be confident and raring to go at these Commonwealth Games and win the Gold Medal for India and make herself and her family proud.
