Indian men’s national hockey team started their journey in the CWG 2022 (Birmingham 2022) in strong fashion with an 11-0 victory against Ghana.

On Sunday (31st July), India met Ghana in the Group B of the men’s hockey in the CWG 2022. The Indian team dominated all four quarters, which resulted in a strong win for them with a double-digit goal difference along with a clean sheet. Harmanpreet Singh scored a hat-trick, while Jugraj Singh scored a brace in that game.

First Quarter: India 3 – Ghana 0

The 22-year-old Abhishek started the goal flood in the second minute of the game. While Harmanpreet made the scoreline 2-0 in the 10th minute, Samsher Singh scored the third one just a minute before the end of the first quarter.   


Second Quarter: India 2 – Ghana 0

Akashdeep Singh and Jugraj Singh put back-to-back goals in 20th and 22nd minutes respectively.


Third Quarter: India 4 – Ghana 0

In the early six minutes of the next half, Harmanpreet scored his second goal. Three minutes later, Nilakanta Sharma made the scoreline 7-0. Just a minute later, Varun Kumar scored the eighth goal for India.

In the final minute of the third quarter, Jugraj Singh scored his second goal of the game.


Fourth Quarter: India 2 – Ghana 0

While Mandeep Singh scored in the 48th minute of the game, Harmanpreet completed his hat-trick in the 54th minute.

Out of their 11 goals, Men in Blue’s six goals came from penalty corners, including Harmanpreet’s all three goals.

Ghana had no clue to handle the fifth-ranked team in the present FIH Men’s World Rankings, who won silver medals in the CWG 2010 and 2014 editions.

Apart from India and Ghana, the hosts England, Wales and Canada are also in the Group B of men’s hockey in this CWG 2022. Men in Blue will face the hosts on 1st August, while they will play against Canada and Wales on 3rd and 4th August respectively. The top two teams will advance to the semi-finals of this event.
