Here’s All You Need to Know about the NBA All-Star Weekend

The 69th NBA All-Star event commenced on 16th Feb, Friday, bringing together the best in the league for an episodic showdown in a series of exhilarating games.

The 69th NBA All-Star brings again the stars of the league on the same court in the city of Chicago, Illinois. With the stars of the league aligned, the show kicked off on Friday with a spectacular performance in the celebrity all-star game from renowned artists, including Chance the Rapper and Common.

The celebrity all-star game turned out to be a rumble between Team Wilbon for which Common served as the captain, and Team Stephen A., which the former managed to trump in an overwhelming 62-47 win. In this meticulous victory of Team Wilbon, Common contributed 10 points, five rebounds, three assists and four steals.

"Man, I just feel good being home in Chicago," Common said on the ESPN game broadcast. "I just wanted to represent Chicago for cats like Quentin Richardson, Derrick Rose and all the ballers that come from here. For Isaiah Thomas. I wore Ben Wilson's number [25] because I wanted to represent our city."

The NBA Rising Stars Game features 10 of the first and second year, most promising NBA players of the United States against NBA counterparts all over the world. The Rising Stars Game of 2020 concluded with a close 20 point victory of Team USA against Team World at the United Center, owing to a coalescent performance of the Americans. 80% of Team USA players managed to score in double figures. 

While Team World seemed to have the reins of the game in their hands in most of the first half of the game, the States managed to tie the game at the 67 point mark as Zion Williamson dunked to bring the equaliser.

The Taco Bell Skills Challenge

The Taco Bell Skills Challenge features two players contesting against one another in an obstacle course, with the swiftest of the two advancing to the next round. The competition begins with a total of 8 players on the court.

The participants in the 2020 Taco Bell Skills Challenge will include Bam Adebayo, Patrick Beverly, Spencer Dinwiddie, Khris Middleton, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Domantas Sabonis, Pascal Siakam and Jayson Tatum. 

The Mountain Dew 3-Point Contest

The Mountain Dew 3-Point Contest’s name gives away its objective: In this contest to secure 3-pointers, eight players are chosen to shoot from five distinct spots on the three-point line.

Each contender must shoot as many balls as they can (up to 27 balls) within the time limit of 70 seconds. The top 3 players securing the maximum points will advance to the final round. The winner of the final round is crowned the 2020 Mountain Dew 3-Point winner.

The participants in this round include Davis Bertans, Devin Booker, Devonte' Graham, Joe Harris, Buddy Hield, Zach LaVine, Duncan Robinson, and Trae Young.

 

The AT&T Slam Dunk Contest

In a ravishing contest of the slam dunks, 4 NBA players will compete to determine the best of them all. 

The players all get two dunks with three attempts on each, with the objective to impress a panel of former as well as current NBA players, who will rank the dunk on a scale between 6 and 10. The contest will have an initial and a final round.

The participants will include Pat Connaughton, Aaron Gordon, Dwight Howard, and Derrick Jones.
