Luka Doncic is a Slovenian professional basketball player who currently plays for the Dallas Mavericks of the NBA (NBA). At the age of 16, he made his senior Real Madrid debut in 2015, becoming the club's youngest player ever. He guided Madrid to the 2018 EuroLeague victory and was named EuroLeague MVP as well as Final Four MVP two years later. Doncic also earned back-to-back EuroLeague Rising Star and ACB Best Young Player accolades, as well as being named the ACB Most Valuable Player. He was named to the EuroLeague All-Decade Team from 2010 to 20. Doncic declared for the NBA draft in 2018 and was selected by the Atlanta Hawks. In 2018, he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks, where he started playing and was named an All-Star.
In his rookie season with the Mavericks, Doncic signed a $5.5 million contract. The deal wasn't straightforward, though, because the franchise had to work out a buyout arrangement with Doncic's previous EuroLeague team, Real Madrid. He is said to have made at least $7.6 million last season. He made a few more after signing a multi-year agreement with Jordan Brand last December, in addition to the reported $7.6 million he earned in the NBA this season. After his two-year contract with Nike expired prior to the start of the season, he became a so-called sneaker-free agent.
Net Worth & Salary:
Luka Doncic’s net worth is $25 million as of 2021 and we expect this number to skyrocket in the coming years. Someone paid $4.6 million for a Luka Doncic rookie card in March 2021. It's the most money ever paid for a basketball player's card. His NBA logo patch from a game-used jersey was affixed on the card, which was autographed.
Current contract with Dallas Mavericks:
Luka signed a five-year, $207 million super-max rookie contract extension with the Dallas Mavericks on August 9, 2021. At the time, it was the NBA's largest guaranteed rookie extension. Now that the franchise's record rookie super-max extension of $207 million has been signed, it's back to trying to win for a team that hasn't advanced in the playoffs since winning its only championship 10 years ago. Because he was named to the All-NBA first team twice, in his second and third seasons, Doncic was eligible for the hefty payday. He is the league's youngest player with repeated first-team selections, at the age of 22.
Basketball Career:
Luka Doncic was born in February 1999 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. He's a 6'7" guard who can also play small forward. He is the son of a former basketball player Sasa Doncic, who played for Union Olimpija as a kid. From 2015 until 2018, Luka Doncic was a player of Real Madrid. He won the EuroLeague title during that time and was voted EuroLeague MVP and EuroLeague Final Four MVP in 2018. In 2018, he was named to the All-EuroLeague First Team as well as the Liga ACB MVP. Luka Doncic represented Slovenia in the 2017 EuroBasket in Turkey, winning a gold medal. In 2015, he was the FIBA Intercontinental Cup winner. The Atlanta Hawks selected Doncic third overall in the 2018 NBA Draft.
The Dallas Mavericks acquired him in a trade. Doncic was also named to the NBA All-Star team in his sophomore season. Doncic is a point guard with the number 77 on his jersey. Doncic is averaging 24.7 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game after 138 games in the NBA. Doncic is a once-in-a-generation player, as worn-out as that may sound. He has literally and symbolically become one of the NBA's faces.
