Straight out of motor City is the eastern conference team, Detroit Pistons. Out of playoff contention for quite a few years, the Detroit Pistons currently are in a rebuilding phase. Lacking a true star after trading away Andre Drummond to the Cavaliers, the Pistons have a good bench but do not have a go to scorer in their midst.

One could argue that Rose or Griffin can easily score and that they can but lack the consistency to do it every play down the court. Both Griffin and Rose have had injuries in the past, Rose suffering more from it compared to Griffin but that doesn't take away their other strengths.

Rose is still an excellent ball handler and facilitator, who demands a lot of attention on defense and Griffin can still finish well above the rim if given the opportunity. And it seems as if the Pistons are working on a new core of young rookies surrounded by a few veteran players to guide them throughout.

The Pistons have had a rich history in their past and were once famously known as the bad boy Pistons in the league due to their physical game style. The bad boy Pistons were led by Isiah Thomas followed by Joe Dumars, Dennis Rodman and Bill Lambeer.

And a decade or so after, the Pistons were once again led to the championship with the core of Chauncey Billups, Richard Hamilton and Ben Wallace. This was one of the teams that won the championship without one true superstar on the team, leading them to victory. Rather it was team gameplay that won them the championship.

Billups was once known as Mr. Big shot, then came RIP hamilton as he was known around the league and a defensive mammoth in Ben Wallace. Their tough, hard nosed style gameplay is

what led this core to a championship. They would've won it two in a row if it weren't for Tim Duncan and the San Antonio Spurs.

Currently the Pistons are aiming towards the next season, planning to make big moves in free agency after letting go of their star player to create some cap space to fill in with good role players that compliment the team playing style entirely. It might take the Pistons a couple more years to go for a title contention unless they add a superstar player this free agency. Even then,

it'll be hard as the Eastern conference is developing over the years with some very good teams in the league and in their division as well.
