Parul Chaudhary brought another gold medal for India in the Asian Athletics Championships 2023 in Bangkok (Thailand). On the third day of the Championships, the 28-year-old finished as the women’s 3000m steeplechase champion.
On Friday (14 July), in the women’s 3000m steeplechase, Parul took 9 minutes and 38.76 seconds (9:38.76s) to complete the race and secure the gold medal. Meanwhile, Chinese Shuangshuang Xu (9:44.54s) and Japanese Yoshimura Reimi (9:48.48s) clinched the silver and bronze medals in the same event. Parul dominated everyone in that race as she comfortably completed the event on the front side.
Priti was another Indian in that event who barely missed out on the podium finish as she ended the race in 9:48.50 seconds to manage the fourth spot.
On the final day of the Asian Athletics Championships 2023 (Sunday, 16 July), Parul will also compete in the women’s 5000m final.
Who is Parul Chaudhary?
In the Sound Running Sunset Tour 2022 in Los Angeles (United States), Parul Chaudhary created history by becoming the first Indian runner to complete the women’s 3000m event in less than 9 minutes. She set up the national record after clocking in 8:57.19 seconds in that race.
In the Asian Athletics Championships 2019 at Doha (Qatar), Parul claimed the bronze medal in the women’s 5000m event (15:36.03s).
Parul has won three National Championships in women’s 3000m steeplechase and two National Championships in women’s 5000m.
