On the second day of the Asian Athletics Championships 2023 in Bangkok, Thailand, India won two more bronze medals along with three gold medals. While Aishwarya Kailash Mishra won bronze in the women’s 400m, and Tejaswin Shankar won the bronze medal in the men’s decathlon.
In her first international event, the 25-year-old Aishwarya Kailash Mishra managed a podium finish in the women’s 400m final.
Sri Lankan Nadeesha Ramanayake won the gold medal after finishing the race with her personal best of 52.61 seconds. Farida Solieva (52.95s) of Uzbekistan was around .34 seconds slower than Ramanayake to earn the silver medal in that event.
Meanwhile, Aishwarya completed her race in 53.07 seconds to secure a bronze medal for her country.
In the men’s 400m final event, Indians Muhammed Ajmal (45.36s) and Rajesh Ramesh (45.67s) finished in the fourth and sixth places, respectively.
Asian Athletics Championships 2023: Tejaswin Shankar clinched a bronze medal in the men’s decathlon
The 24-year-old Tejaswin Shankar, popular for the high jump, achieved a bronze medal in the men’s decathlon. It was the fourth decathlon of his career but the first time as an Indian player.
In the men’s decathlon, Japanese Yuma Maruyama won the gold medal with a total point of 7745, and Thai Sutthisak Singkhon secured the silver medal with a total point of 7626.
In the meantime, Shankar accumulated 7527 points to clinch the bronze medal in that event.
Who is Tejaswin Shankar?
In the Commonwealth Games 2022, Shankar won the bronze medal for his country in the men’s high jump (2.22m).
Shankar is also holding the national record in the high jump with 2.29m during the Texas Tech Corky/Crofoot Shootout.
In the National Championships 2021, Shankar won a gold medal in the high jump.
Just last month, Shankar won a gold medal in the decathlon at the National Championships 2023.
