The journey of Big E to becoming WWE Champion

Big E has had a tumultuous journey to becoming WWE champion earlier this year. It wasn’t smooth sailing for this incredible athlete. He made his debut in the initial stages of NXT in the late 2000s and from there his journey in WWE started.

It was a joyous occasion not only for Big E when he became WWE champion but also all WWE fans as a whole. Everyone came together to celebrate the success of this amazing superstar because all of us fans have been together with him throughout his decade plus journey. Let’s look at the journey as a whole.

NXT Champion

Big E came to NXT in the late 2000s and immediately stood out because of how big he was and his athletic prowess , he had a great look and could wrestle well for a beginner and that is the reason he was made only the 2nd ever NXT Champion in history and he delivered as champion in that brand and was a great ambassador for NXT and he helped usher in new talent as well , playing the role of a senior pro. His stint in NXT was short but it was meaningful and he was ready to go to the main roster.

The debut and the Challenges

He debuted in the main roster in 2009 as the bodyguard of Dolph Ziggler and was stoic and only used to beat down other people and wrestle sometimes. This didn’t allow him to grow as a performer despite the guidance of Dolph and AJ Lee, he wanted more and he knew he had to get better before he would get significant opportunities and in this time he even became the Intercontinental Champion but he wasn’t ready at that point so it was a forgetful reign and his career looked like it would stagnate.

The New Day

When all seemed lost he formed a Three man group with Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods and looking back it was the best decision all Three of them ever made in their careers. However, it was not all smooth sailing for the New day for some time because when they debuted the crowds hated then and didn’t want to see them but then they turned heel and started winning championships and making a legacy and the fans slowly turned a corner on the group and in 2016 they turned face and never looked back. Big E was the muscle of the group and was he developed his promo skills and became an even better wrestler with the New day and then Kofi Kingston won the WWE championship at WrestleMania, this inspired Big E to do the same and he pursued his singles career at SmackDown.

Big E singles run

The singles run of Big E started on SmackDown in 2020 and he immediately stood out from the others in the roster and started dominating opponents to the point he even became the Intercontinental Champion and this time he had a reign that was good and had quality matches as well. After that came Money in the bank and by winning the briefcase he solidified himself as a top player in WWE. He was brilliant in his segments with Paul Heyman and eventually came the day when his dreams cane true and he won the WWE championship on Raw.

The WWE championship reign

It’s only been 100 days since Big E has been WWE champion but it is safe to say that he is a champion that is adored by all the fans and everyone in the locker room respects. He has had great matches with Bobby Lashley, Drew McIntyre and others and at Day 1 he is in a Fatal Four Way match with Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens and Bobby Lashley in the toughest match of his reign so far and I am sure he will have a long Reign and his appearances on various other sporting events around the world is earning him more recognition as well.
