The Horror State of the AEW Women Division

AEW had another PPV called AEW All Out and it was a great show and just what the company needed after all that CM Punk debacle the day before. AEW is the second biggest wrestling promotion in the world and they should treat their women better. The state of their women’s division is horrible. They do not get more than 1 match per PPV. There are a lot more things to say about how Tony Khan has been handling the women’s division.

Let’s talk about the horror state of the AEW Women’s Division

AEW has no space for women

WWE has shown over the past 7-8 years how important the women are to a wrestling promotion. Last night at WWE Payback thee were 2 women’s matches and both the matches got time and they wrestled for a combined 37+ minutes. Trish Stratus and Becky Lynch had one of the matches of the year and Rhea Ripley vs Raquel Rodriguez was an incredible match as well. This is how a wrestling promotion presents women and the best example is NXT where there are so many women that they may need a secondary women’s title. AEW and Tony Khan however have not cracked the code even after being on the air for 4 years. They have some truly great Women’s wrestlers but the way they are treated is horrendous. They had Thunder Rosa but she is nowhere to be seen. They also have Jade Cahill and Jamie Hayter but they are rarely used In quality matches.

The ones that they do use are not great wrestlers but women who have name value because they worked with WWE before. Saraya is the AEW Women’s Champion but she can hardly have a good match and Tony Khan by giving her the Championship at All In has pushed down the women’s division even more. Then there is Britt Baker who is the face of the women’s division but she is not even the fifth best wrestler in that division. There are the likes of Hikaru Shida, Ruby Soho, Kris Statlander and so many others that deserve an opportunity but Tony Khan refuses to give them. These women should think about their future when their contracts are up and switch to WWE.

The one ray of hope for the entire division may be coming in the form of Mercedes Mone. She is known as Sasha Banks for the WWE fans and she has truly one of the greatest to ever do it. If she comes to AEW then finally there will be someone that will be of that quality and she can lead the AEW Women’s division. However she will not be full time for AEW because she still wants to comeback to WWE and the moment Triple H calls her then she will come back. Tony Khan needs to give opportunity to home grown talent and not ex WWE women. At All Out CJ Perry who is known as Lana debuted and she was instantly involved in the storyline with Rusev and this is another bad sign for the women in AEW. Hopefully they can then around this horror state of the women in the company because without quality women no wrestling company can prosper for a long time.
