The Universal Championship is the World Championship that was introduced in 2016 when the brand split happened in WWE after a long time and the title was home of Raw for a number of years before it became the home to SmackDown and this title has a short but great history. It has been 7 years that this title has been introduced but since great WWE superstars have held it in this time. The Universal Championship has now been combined into the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship but the lineage of that title is still there.
Let’s look at the Top 5 Longest Universal Champions of all time and look back on their title reigns
1) Roman Reigns – 1113 Days and counting
There is no question as to who holds the record for the longest reign as the Universal Champion because he has the longest reign by double the margin of the next best. Roman Reigns started this historic run of his by winning the Universal Championship in 2020 and for 3 years he has been the champion and the title has grown in importance and prestige and the person who beats Roman Reigns for the title will be someone who has to be the best. And it is looking like Roman Reigns will hold that title for more months to come so the days of this reign will keep growing and WWE is getting it’s best Ratings, all the shows are being sold out and the merchandise is at an all time High so there is no reason to end This Reign.
2) Brock Lesnar – 504 Days
This was the second longest reign with the Universal Championship but quality wise it was a mixed bag. Brock Lesnar won the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 33 when he beat Goldberg and everyone was happy as the reign of Goldberg ended but after he won the championship, Brock Lesnar was hardly on the show and the other WWE superstars were annoyed with the Champion not showing for work that often. Brock Lesnar had matches at WrestleMania and the other big shows and there were some truly incredible matches that he had like the SummerSlam Match in 2017 or the match against Samoa Joe. Brock Lesnar would lose the championship at SummerSlam 2018 when Roman Reigns beat him for the championship.
3) Kevin Owens – 188 Days
There is such a big disparity between the first 2 Reigns and this one as Kevin Owens had the title for only 188 days but it was one of the best Reigns of all time because of his long term storyline that he had with Chris Jericho and these 2 were comedy gold together and Chris Jericho had the list and it was great. The festival of friendship is a segment that is talked about to this day as being one of the best in recent history. Kevin Owens should have been champion for far longer but WWE made the wrong decision of giving the championship to Goldberg.

4) Brock Lesnar – 156 Days
When Roman Reigns won the championship at SummerSlam 2018, it was looking like he was going to have the reign that he wanted but a few months later he announced to the world that he was suffering with Leukemia and that he would have to vacate his championship and he left WWE to get treated but the WWE had to make a new champion and Brock Lesnar was the man yet again and this time he would hold the Championship till WrestleMania 35 and during this reign as well he had great matches against Finn Balor and at WrestleMania 35, Seth Rollins beat him to finally win the Universal Championship.
5) Braun Strowman – 150 Days
The 5th longest reign with the Universal Championship was the one that Braun Strowman had with the title in 2020 when Roman Reigns decided that he would not compete in WWE due to Covid and the health scares that he had and so Braun Strowman stepped up to the occasion and he won the Universal Championship at Ete36 Night 1 and he held the title till SummerSlam of that year. Braun Strowman Deserved that championship and he had a long Reign with the title.
