India stunned favourite South Korea (Republic of Korea) in the Pool C game of the men’s indoor volleyball event at the Asian Games 2022 in Hangzhou, China. With the latest victory result, India finished Pool C as the champions, while South Korea and Cambodia are yet to face each other.
After thrashing Cambodia by 3-0 last Tuesday (September 19), India had a big challenge against three-time Asian Games gold medallist and 2018 Asian Games silver medallist, South Korea (Republic of Korea) on Wednesday (September 20). It was the battle between the 73rd-ranked team India vs the 27th-ranked Republic of Korea, where India recorded a stunning victory by a 3-2 margin.

The tight match lasted around two-and-a-half-hour, where the Korean Republic won the first set by 27-25. However, India made a brilliant comeback and won the next two sets by 27-29 and 22-25, respectively.
Although the Korean team bounced back with the fourth set victory by 25-20, India ultimately recorded a dream win after securing the fifth set by a 15-17 margin.
Among the Indians, the wing spiker Amit secured the most points with 24. However, Korean wing spiker NA Gyeongbok secured a total of 31 points in the game.
While India earned 36 points from opponent errors, the Korean team collected a total of 19 points from opponent errors.
Unlike the continuously successful team, the Republic of Korea, India won their last medal at the Asian Games in the men’s indoor volleyball event in 1986. It was their third Asian Games medal (won silver in 1962) and second Asiad bronze medal (after 1958).
