How are England changing Test Cricket for the better?

This is one of those topics that gives me joy to write because I absolutely love test cricket and what England are doing with it is making me fall in love with it even more and they are telling the other teams that this is the way to play test cricket. Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum are changing the way we play and look at test cricket. I am an Indian cricket fan and in awe of them and hope my team learns from them.

This change has been happening since last year and the term used for all of this is Bazball which means the type of credit that Brendon McCullum plays and the English team are following in his footsteps. So, let’s look at how this England team is changing test cricket for the better.

Batting like it is an ODI or a T20I match

Generally batting in test cricket is about being solid in defense and having good ground strokes and not taking any risks and scoring at a run rate of 3 runs per over. This England team however thinks so differently and they think that we should go hammer and tongs from the first ball because the fielders are in the circle and fours and sixes are easy. In the recently concluded test match at Rawalpindi they were scoring at over a run rate of 6.50 in test cricket for 100 overs. They made 506 runs in 75 overs on Day 1 which is an all time record. Then in the second innings they made 264 in 36 overs as if it was an ODI match and their Batters even Joe Root are batting at a strike rate of more than 100.

Bravery and fearlessness

This England team led by Ben Stokes does kot fear failure and are incredibly brave. Earlier this year they had to chase 387 against India and they chased it down with ease and everyone was shocked. They did the same thing vs New Zealand where they chased down 300 in 50 overs like ur was an ODI match. The likes of Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Jonny Bairatow are fearless. And Ben Stokes as a captain is so Brave, just look at tge recently concluded test match where there was no business having a result but he declared and gave Pakistan 343 runs in 100 overs to chase and England won by 74 runs.

The Bowling is excellent and can take wickets anywhere

The bowling attack of this England team is excellent and they are not worried that what are the conditions that they have to bowl in because they will give it their all and try and get a result. A 40 year old Jimmy Anderson is bowling at the peak of his powers and Stuart Broad is also great. Then there are Ollie Robinson, Mark Wood who are the young guns and then there is the captain Ben Stokes and the spinner Jack Leach. Truly an incredible bowling attack.

Not Playing for Draws

This is the biggest change that Ben Stokes and his England team are bringing to test cricket and that they do not want a draw because they want to go for a win and it does not matter whether they lose in the process. They want to get more people to watch test cricket and when the fans see that this team does not play for draws then more people will watch test cricket. Draws are boring most of the time.
