The Wimbledon Championships 2019 Women's finals promise to be the most thrilling women's match at the All England Lawn Tennis Club this year as the 23-time grand slam champion, Serena Williams faces the 2018 French Open Champion, Simona Halep on Saturday.

Serena Williams enters the match as the favorite to win the title. However, Simona Halep can never be ignored in a grand slam match as she knows what it takes to get over the line in a major event. The Romanian star is now a finalist at 3 out of the 4 majors. At the US Open, she has made it to the semifinals and she has proved to be one of the most consistent players at the WTA in the past two years.

Serena Williams will play against probably the best mover on the court in the WTA Tour. While Simona Halep does not have the biggest of the serves but she has the capability to hit consistently strong groundstrokes down the line.

However, the 27-year-old has a poor head to head record against Serena Williams. Halep could manage to win only one match out of the ten matches against the American. Also, the world no. 7 ended on the losing side in their previous 3 meetings at the Grand Slams. However, the Roman managed to grab a set in each other their previous three meetings at the majors.

Simona Halep vs Serena Williams

Ranked no. 7, Simona Halep did not have a cakewalk to reach the finals. She defeated Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-4 7-5 in the first round. However, she struggled in the second round as she defeated Mihaela Buzarnescu in three sets 6-3 4-6 6-2. Halep then shifted gears in her next match against Azarenka as she cruised passed through the 2-time grand slam champion 6-3 6-1.

There was stopping to the Romanian as she continued her great form and did not lose a set in her next three rounds before reaching the finals. She defeated Cori Gauff 6-3 6-3, Shuai Zhang 7-6, 6-1, and Elina Svitolina 6-1 6-3 in the round of 16, Quarterfinals and Semifinals respectively.

Ranked no. 10, Serena Williams cruised past through Giulia Gatto-Monticone 6-2 7-5 in the first round before struggling against Kaja Juvan in the second round, defeating her in three sets 2-6 6-2 6-4 after losing the first set. However, the American had no problem whatsoever in her road to the finals as she defeated Julia Goerges 6-3 6-4, Carla Suarez Navarro 6-2 6-2, Alison Riske 6-4 4-6 6-3 and Barbora Strycova 6-1 6-2 in the respective rounds.

Simona Halep and Serena Williams were certainly the best players in the Wimbledon Championships 2019 and it is difficult to differentiate between the two. It will be interesting to see which player outperforms the other to conquer the most prestigious title in Tennis.
