Virat Kohli, the leading run-scorer in IPL history, has equalled the record for most IPL centuries by hitting his sixth IPL hundred and seventh T20 century last Thursday (18 May) night.
It was the 65th match of the IPL 2023, where Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) faced the hosts SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH). Although South African cricketer Heinrich Klaasen’s century (104 off 51 balls) guided SRH to the first batting total of 186/5 in 20 overs, the RCB openers Virat Kohli and skipper Faf du Plessis outperformed at chasing.
While Du Plessis scored 71 runs off 47 balls, the right-handed batter Kohli scored 100 runs off 63 balls with the help of 12 fours and four sixes. Their batting resulted in RCB’s important eight-wicket victory in the final over, where the visitors chased the target in 19.2 overs.
It was Kohli’s sixth century in IPL career. In the list of most IPL centuries, the Indian right-handed batter Kohli equalled the record of Jamaican superstar Chris Gayle.
