Delhi Capitals on Tuesday announced the appointment of Rishabh Pant as the captain of the side for the 2021 edition of the IPL.
Shreyas Iyer suffered a blow on his shoulder while fielding in the 1st ODI between India and England. After tests, it was confirmed that Iyer had partially dislocated his shoulder. Iyer was immediately ruled out of the remaining 2 ODIs.
Although initially Iyer was set to miss only the first half of the season Delhi Capitals announced that their former captain is set to miss the entire tournament.
In the previous season where DC finished as runners up Rishabh Pant was the vice-captain of the side. The 23-year-old wicket-keeper is already a force to reckon with, although Pant has been vice-captain of the world cup winning India Under 19 team. Pant has also led his state team in the past. But his captaincy is something that is yet to be tested in the IPL.
Rishabh Pant has been appointed the captain ahead of experienced IPL captains Ajinkya Rahane, Ravichandran Ashwin and Steve Smith. Whether captaincy brings the best out of Rishabh Pant or he succumbs under pressure remains to be seen.
