Sergio Ramos is a Spanish professional footballer who currently plays as a centre-back for Real Madrid in La Liga and captains the Spanish national team. Earlier in his career, he also played as a right-back. Ramos joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2005 after graduating from Sevilla's youth academy and spending two seasons with the senior team. Since then, he has been the main man for Real Madrid, winning 22 major titles, including five La Liga titles and four UEFA Champions League titles, while also being one of the top goal scorers in La Liga as a defender. He was named to the competition’s Team of the Season for each of his four UEFA Champions League victories. In the 2014 UEFA Champions League Final, he scored the equaliser in the 93rd minute.
Footballing Career
Ramos was born in Camas, Andalusia. Ramos began his career at Camas C.F. at the age of six, then moved on to Sevilla, where he developed alongside Jesus Navas and Antonio Puerta through the club's youth system. On 1 February 2004, he made his first-team and La Liga debut, replacing Francisco Gallardo in the 64th minute of a 0–1 away defeat to Deportivo La Coruna. Real Madrid paid €27 million for Ramos in the summer of 2005, a world record for a Spanish defender. Ramos started his career as a centre back, but he was also used as an emergency defensive midfielder on occasion. In the 2007–08 season, however, he was moved back to right back with the arrival of Christoph Metzelder and Pepe. After spending 16 seasons as Real Madrid, he is regarded as one of the best centre-backs of this generation. He helped Real Madrid win five La Liga titles, four Champions League titles, two Copa del Rey, four Spanish Super Cups, three UEFA Super Cups and four FIFA Club World Cups. He left the Real Madrid in 2021 summer, where he made 671 appearances and scored 101 goals. From 2021-23, he played for PSG. Ramos played in la liga with his old club Sevilla in 2023-24 season.
Internationally, he has played four World Cups with Spain and has won a FIFA World Cup and two Euros.
