And there goes another striker. Chelsea has had an embarrassing list of failed strikers in recent times. There have been big hits such as Diego Costa and club legend Didier Drogba. Just like for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. For every success comes several expensive flops.

It is odd that there are several great strikers who signed for Chelsea and found life tough, while in some cases some strikers left the club and became great.

Up next is Gonzalo Higuain, who has been handed over the number nine shirt. The number has been cursed at Stamford Bridge and it will be interesting to see if the Argentine can break the curse.

Here, Sports Social will take a look at five strikers who had it tough at Chelsea.

5. Mateja Kežman (£5.3m from PSV Eindhoven)

One of Jose Mourinho's first signings as Chelsea boss. It was a rapid decline of the once-great poacher Mateja Kežman. Some rate his move to Chelsea as one of the worst of all time. At PSV, he was a prolific goalscorer, from tap-ins and long-range benders to flick headers and emphatic volleys, Kežman did it all. But he will always be known for his failure at Chelsea as he managed to net in only seven goals in 41 appearances.

4. Alvaro Morata (£60m from Real Madrid)

Morata is the latest entry in the long list of failed strikers at Chelsea. Signed for a then club record fee, Morata's life in England began well at first as he managed to find the back of the net consistently in his first ten games but that was the best he could offer. He has struggled for goals since and lacked confidence in front of goal. The pressure of leading the attack and the physicality of the Premier League may have been two major factors that lead to his failure at the club. 24 goals in 72 appearances is a low return considering the fee Chelsea paid for his services.

3. Radamel Falcao (Season-long loan from Monaco)

To be honest, Falcao has never been the same player since his severe ACL injury. After his failure at Manchester United, Mourinho decided to give Falcao another Premier League lifeline and a chance to prove his critics wrong in England. His time at Stamford Bridge was a continuation from his time at United. Brought in as a cover for Diego Costa, Falcao started just two games for Chelsea. Chelsea had an option to make the deal permanent, which obviously, they did not as Falcao managed just a single goal in 12 appearances.

2. Fernando Torres (£50m from Liverpool)

Where do we even start? When it comes to trophies won, Torres had an eventful time at Chelsea as he managed to win the Champions League, Premier League and Europa League titles. Torres had set the Premier League alight during his time with the Reds, but with the Blues, he only managed to set the rival fans alight. 45 goals in 172 games is a poor record by his standards. His best moment in Chelsea colours was when he managed to score and end the tie against Barcelona in the second leg of the semi-final of their Champions League winning season. But sadly his time at Chelsea will always be remembered for his open goal miss at Old Trafford.

1. Andriy Shevchenko (£30.8m from AC Milan)

The curious case of Andriy Shevchenko. Chelsea announced themselves as a new footballing superpower with the signing of Andriy Shevchenko from Milan for £30m. Ballon d'Or winner during his time in Milan, the Ukrainian used to bang in goals for fun Italy but he struggled to adapt to the physicality and rigours of the Premier League and was deemed as a failure by Chelsea fans. He was never the same player again. After scoring a paltry 23 goals in 76 games, he was sent back to Milan but was sold immediately once again to Dynamo Kyiv.

Will Higuain end the curse?
