The big and controversial decision made by the former Barcelona manager is leaving out Captain Sergio Ramos. Sergio Ramos has been a stalwart in the Spanish side for over a decade. The Real Madrid captain last year broke the Spanish record for most caps for Spain. Ramos has been in every Spain squad under Luis Enrique. This decision has been largely influenced by the defender's injury woes this season. Ramos has played only 21 matches this season. Luis Enrique made it very clear when he took over as Spain manager that Sergio Ramos will be his captain. The decision is very clearly based on Ramos' fitness rather than his abilities.
The other notable absentee is Nacho who has had an outstanding season at Real Madrid. The reason for leaving him out is unclear at the moment. Aymeric Laporte has been called up after recently changing Allegiances from France.
