Now this might be an unsaid thing but the best basketball video game right now is presented by 2k Sports, named NBA2K.
2K brings you the best graphics, best player models, game mechanics and a lot more and is by far way of its competition, if there is any.
But 2k wasn't always on top. The basketball world of video games was once dominated by Electronic Arts(EA). EA started making NBA games from way back in the 90's and dominated throughout the 2000's as well. However, it was eventually 2K Sports that took over the sporting giant of video games. EA dominates soccer, hockey and even American football to name a few but 2K widely won the players over with NBA2K.
2K entered the race in 1999 but struggled for quite a while till then. It wasn't until NBA2K9 that had people paying attention to what the competition was offering. It was all EA's game up until then. NBA2K9 featured Kevin Garnett as it's cover athlete and 2K10 featured Kobe Bryant.
And it was all uphill from there. NBA2K11 featured Michael Jordan as it's cover athlete along with a brand new song for the intro video by Snoop Dogg and the all new Michael Jordan era tasks in game. EA was too late to realise that 2K was slowly taking over but it was too late by then. 2K dropped with the brand new NBA2K12 which made me switch over from EA to 2K, personally.
The intro video to NBA2K12 still gives me goosebumps and is by far one of the best intro videos 2K has made so far. A link to NBA2K12's intro video-:

And it wasn't just the intro that had me over, it was 2K's new engine they were running the game on which produced better simulation, smoother gameplay and realistic graphics. Since then, 2K has paved the way for basketball video games with adding new content each year, new game modes and new teams to choose from.
2K recently added the WNBA roster as well which is a huge step that EA never took. 2K offers a bunch of variety in the game as well with MyPlayer mode, MyCareer mode and the MyTeam mode. It also has 2KTV interlaced with the game to provide in-game information, interviews with NBA players and much more.
2K has been dominating for the past decade and is not planning on slowing down anytime soon. So, to sum it up, 2K sports has the better basketball game for PC or any other gaming console out there.
