After New Zealand chose to field first at Chennai, they restricted Bangladesh to 245/9 in 50 overs. While Lockie Ferguson picked up three wickets (3/49), the other New Zealand pacers Trent Boult (2/45) and Matt Henry (2/58) bagged two wickets each.
In reply, New Zealand chased down the target in 42.5 overs after losing two wickets. Captain Kane Williamson scored 78 runs on his return before he was forced to retire hurt due to a thumb injury on a throw. Daryl Mitchell was not out on 89 runs, while the opener Devon Conway scored 45 runs.
