While the Indian batting line-up faced a very tough period against the defending champions England at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 at Lucknow, captain Rohit Sharma played a pivotal role in setting up a challenging total for the hosts. During that innings, Rohit became the fifth Indian cricketer to complete 18000 international runs.
Although India maintained their unbeaten record at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 by beating the defending champions England by 100 runs, thanks to the outstanding bowling performances of the Indian bowlers, the batting line-up faced big trouble.
After England sent India to bat first, the hosts were once struggling at 40/3. Opener and skipper Rohit then had a crucial 91-run partnership for the fourth wicket. When Rohit was dismissed in the 37th over of the innings, India were 164/5, while Rohit scored 87 runs in 101 balls with the help of 10 fours and three sixes.
Apart from Rohit, Rahul's 39 runs and Suryakumar Yadav’s 49 runs helped India to score 229/9 in 50 overs. In reply, England were bundled out for only 129 runs in 34.5 overs, where Mohammed Shami (4/22) bagged four wickets and Jasprit Bumrah (3/32) took three wickets. Captain Rohit won the Player of the Match award for his outstanding batting performance.

Rohit Sharma completed 18000 international runs
During his one of the best batting performances in ODI career, Rohit also achieved a big milestone. The right-handed batter completed 18000 runs in his international cricket career. While he was 47 runs away to reach this milestone before the game, the right-handed batter ended the match with 18040 international runs.
Rohit became the 20th batter to record 18000 runs in international cricket.
Rohit became the fifth Indian to score 18000 international runs.
