During the first Semi-final at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023, Indian great Virat Kohli not only completed his record-breaking 50th ODI century but also set up an ODI World Cup record for most runs in a single ODI World Cup edition.

Former Indian captain Virat Kohli is in dream form with the bat as the country is dreaming of winning the CWC 2023 trophy at home.

Before the Semi-finals at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023, Kohli already hit two centuries and five more half-centuries. The right-handed batter was already leading the table of most runs in the tournament with 594 runs.

In the first Semi-final at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023, hosts India faced New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.


Virat Kohli broke Sachin Tendulkar's record

After Indian captain Rohit Sharma chose to bat first, once again Indian batters dominated. While the openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill provided a strong setup, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer perfectly carried the innings by scoring their respective centuries.

Before the innings, Kohli was 80 runs away to set up a new record for most runs in a single edition of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup.

Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar scored 673 runs in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2003. Before the CWC 2023, Tendulkar held the record for most runs in a single edition of the ODI World Cup.

With his 117 runs in the Semi-final, Kohli comfortably surpassed Sachin Tendulkar's record of the most runs in one edition of the ODI World Cup history. The right-handed batter has scored 711 runs at the CWC 2023.
