During the five-match away T20I series opener against the hosts India, Australia had a strong start, where the no.3 batter Josh Inglis firing hundred powered Australia to set up a 200+ total. It was the joint fastest T20I century by an Australian cricketer.
Only four days after the Final of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India, where Australia beat India in the Final to win their sixth ODI World Cup title, India and Australia met in the first game of the five-match T20I series at Visakhapatnam.
After the debutant Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav chose to field first, Australia scored 208/3 in 20 overs. While the opener Steven Smith played a patient knock of 52 runs in 41 balls with the help of eight fours, the 28-year-old Josh Inglis scored 110 runs in 50 balls with the help of 11 fours and eight sixes. For the second wicket, Smith and Inglis set up a new T20I record partnership for Australia with 130 runs.
It was the first 50+ knock for Inglis in his T20I career, who previously hit two T20 centuries during the T20 Blast 2021.
Fastest T20I hundred by an Australian: Josh Inglis equalled Aaron Finch’s record
