One of the Rules in cricket which was the most Controversial and one which had no place in modern day Cricket was the soft signal rule that was there since a long time and this rule was the example that the ICC was tone dead because in this rule, imagine if a catch is caught on the boundary and there is doubt then how can the umpire Standing feet away can tell whether it was out or not. The ICC will do away with this rule as of the 1st of June 2023
So, let’s talk about why it is such a great decision to do away with the soft signal rule.
It was a ridiculous rule
As was said before that the soft signal rule was one of the worst rules in the history of cricket and thankfully the ICC has come to its senses and has done away with this rule. Credit has to be given to the BCCI who did away with this rule in the IPL a number of years ago and it is baffling that it took this long for the ICC to come to this decision. This rule was so Controversial that the sport was being sullied and made fun by everyone and the fans were saying that the umpires had X Rays that they could see so far whether it was out or not.

It created unnecessary pressure on the umpires
The umpires are also human beings and they can also make mistakes and on top of that they had been given the pressure to determine whether the batter was out or not out and then the third umpire had to go with the on field umpires and then if there was proof to show that the on field decision was wrong then the umpires are said a lot of things which they do not deserve so by doing away with this rule the umpires can go directly to the third umpire and then the third umpire can use his due diligence to make the correct decision. This way the on field umpires can concentrate on the on field action and not worry about the other things.

The use of technology will be more better
The point is that if there is so much technology that is used in Cricket then it should be used in a proper way and not be dependent on the soft signal by the on field umpires and this dilutes the use of technology and the fans then start saying things that they should not and to with doing seat with this rule the ICC has encouraged the use of technology and the Third umpire will have all the technology like Ultraedge, Ball Tracking, Hotspot etc and the different camera angles can also be used to check the catches whether they are clean of not.
