The 34-year-old Indian cricketer Virat Kohli is now back to dominate the world cricket once again with his bat. During the last game of the three-match home ODI series against Sri Lanka at Thiruvananthapuram, in-form Kohli scored his 46th ODI century, which was also his third hundred in the last four ODI innings.
The hosts India already secured the ODI series by leading it 2-0 before the Thiruvananthapuram ODI, where the home captain Rohit Sharma chose to bat first after winning the toss. Openers Rohit and Shubman Gill provided a good start with a 95-run partnership.
Virat Kohli: 46th ODI century – 166 not out in 110 balls
But after good-looking Rohit was dismissed for 42 runs, Gill and Virat Kohli completely dominated. While Gill scored 116 runs in 97 balls, Kohli not only completed his 46th ODI century in 85 balls but also stretched that to a bigger score.
Kohli scored 166 not out off 110 balls (13 fours and eight sixes) as India managed to set up a giant total of 390/5 in 50 overs.
During that incredible batting performance, Kohli surpassed the Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene (12650 ODI runs) to take the fifth spot in the list of most ODI runs. At the end of that innings, Kohli scored 12754 ODI runs.
In reply, Sri Lanka were bundled out for only 73 runs, and India secured a record-breaking ODI win by 317 runs. That largest ODI victory helped India to complete a whitewash in this ODI series.
