Suryakumar Yadav scores 2nd T20I century

Suryakumar Yadav’s incredible second T20I century helped India to comfortably take a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series against the hosts New Zealand after winning the second game of the series on Sunday (20th November) at Mount Maunganui.

After New Zealand sent the visitors to bat first, Suryakumar Yadav’s impressive 111 not out off 51 balls helped India to manage 191/6 in 20 overs. While the right-handed batter scored his first fifty runs in 32 balls, he completed his second T20I century in 49 balls. Only the opener Ishan Kishan (36) was the other batter to score 20+ runs in that innings.

In reply, New Zealand were bowled out for 126 runs in 18.5 overs as India won by 65 runs.

Suryakumar Yadav scored two T20I centuries in 2022

Last June, Suryakumar Yadav scored his first T20I century against England at Nottingham, where he scored 117 off 55 balls after completing his century in 48 balls.

Here are some stats on Suryakumar Yadav’s second T20I century

• After Rohit Sharma (2018), Suryakumar became the second Indian to score two T20I centuries in a calendar year.  

• After Czech Republic cricketer Sabawoon Davizi (2022), Suryakumar became the second batter to score two 110 or more runs in a T20I innings in a calendar year.

• Seventh overall batter to score two T20I centuries in a calendar year.

• After South African cricketer David Miller, Suryakumar became the second cricketer to score two T20I centuries in less than 50 balls.

• Third Indian batter to score at least two T20I centuries. Earlier, Rohit Sharma recorded four T20I centuries, and KL Rahul scored two T20I centuries.

• Nineteenth overall cricketer to score at least two T20I centuries.

India played record 62 international matches in 2022

It was also a special match for India as it was their 62nd international match in 2022, a new record for the most international matches for a team in a calendar year. Earlier this year, India already put themselves on top of the record books of most T20Is in a calendar year, most T20I wins in a calendar year and most international wins in a calendar year.
