This is a question that has got more importance after the events of the T20I World Cup 2022. The so-called lesser teams have upset the biggest cricket teams in this tournament and some are out of the tournament due to losing to these nations. I can say for everyone that we all have enjoyed this World Cup the most because anything could happen and that was the best part about it all. And naturally the questions are starting to be raised whether these associate nations should get more opportunities.
Before we talk about this important question let’s talk about the growth of cricket around the world that we have seen in this tournament and the good news is that from the next World Cup in 2024, there will be 20 teams that will take part in the tournament and this is a very welcome move to grow the game and hosting it in USA is another great decision.
Yes, The Associate nations deserve more chances
This is an easy answer as the more opportunities the associate nations are given to play against the best cricket teams it will help them grow their game and become better sides who will be able to compete at the highest level and cricket will see more markets that will watch the sport.
The associate nations deserve a fair shot at winning the big tournaments as well so that the people of that country can also feel what it means to win a World Cup. More importantly if we want to truly have a World Cup then we should have teams from all parts of the world and 20 teams minimum for it to be anywhere near football as the 32 team World Cup is the biggest sporting event in the world because all the 192 teams can play the Qualifying and then qualify for the World Cup.

Giving the associate nations more opportunities to play full series against the big teams will also help them generate more income for that nation and as a result they will have better facilities for their players. For example if India goes to these nations to play then they will get a lot of revenue from all sides. Revenue is a very important part of growth in cricket, the more the revenue the better the team will be.
