The Covid19 cases in India are nearing 22,000. With the pandemic spreading like a wildfire, the sporting world has come down to a halt. The games being resumed in the near future seems quite unlikely.
Ever since the announcement of IPL suspension, many have been eagerly waiting for a binding statement from the BCCI on the state of IPL 2020. In the midst of all this, BCCI President and former Indian skipper had made a huge pronouncement that cricket in India has taken a back seat and there are no chances of the sport being held in the nation in the immediate future.
Bundesliga, the German football league is more likely to be the first league to restart the sporting world. There are discussions being held for the league to resume sometime in May.
"The social reality of Germany and India are different, there will be no cricket in India in the near future," Ganguly told Times Of India. "There are too many ifs and buts involved. More importantly, I don't believe in the sport when there is a risk to human life."
Harbhajan Singh also backed the left-hander and said, "When IPL teams travel, there’s a huge crowd at the airports, hotels, outside the stadium. How are you going to stop them if you are looking to maintain social distancing? There should be no top-flight cricket until there is a vaccine for COVID-19."
There are also unanswered questions when it comes to the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
ICC CEO stated that they are in constant contact with the experts of the game and the Australian government.
“In relation to ICC events, including the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, we will continue to take advice from experts and authorities, including the Australian government. We will utilize all of the data and information available to us to ensure we can take responsible decisions around all competitions at an appropriate time that are in the best interests of our sport,” said ICC Chief Executive Sawhney.
While there are many setbacks, especially in relation to financial and economical loss because of the halt, sports professionals around the world have prioritized health over everything.
