Malaysian Syazrul Idrus' T20I hat-trick forces Thailand to manage fourth-lowest T20I total

The 31-year-old Malaysian right-arm medium bowler Syazrul Idrus recorded a hat-trick that powered his team to bundle out Thailand for the fourth-lowest T20I total.

Currently, Malaysia are hosting a Quadrangular T20I Series, where Thailand faced the hosts last Monday (4th July) at Bangi. While Thailand chose to bat first after winning the toss, they were bundled out for 30 runs in 13.1 overs. That innings had no double-digit scores as Phiriyapong Suanchuai scored the highest runs in that innings with nine runs.

Syazrul Idrus took a T20I hat-trick in his first over

During the second over of that game, Malaysian bowler Syazrul Idrus clinched a T20I hat-trick. On the fourth, fifth and sixth balls of that over, Idrus first bowled the opener Sorawat Desungnoen (2) and then trapped Jeerasak Pakhiaokajee (0) and wicketkeeper-batter Chaloemwong Chatphaisan (0) respectively for the lbws.

Later, in the sixth over of that innings, Narawit Nuntarach became Idrus’ fourth victim in that game as Idrus ended that innings with the bowling figures of 4-0-17-4

  • Syazrul Idrus became the first Malaysian bowler to record a T20I hat-trick.

Talking about Thailand’s 30 runs innings, it was the fourth-lowest completed T20I total.

Meanwhile, it was also the sixth time when all the 11 batters failed to manage double-digit scores in a T20I innings.

Malaysia chased down the 31-run target in less than four overs

Chasing down the low target, Malaysia scored 34/1 in just 3.5 overs, as they won by nine wickets with 97 balls to spare. Though the opener Zubaidi Zulkifle scored a golden duck on the very first ball of that innings, another opener Virandeep Singh (18 not out off 13 balls) and the no.3 batter Syed Aziz (15 not out off 9 balls) comfortably took the hosts to the winning status.
