During the opening game of the three-match T20I series against the hosts Bangladesh, England limited-overs captain Jos Buttler reached a special milestone as the right-handed batter became the first wicketkeeper-batter to score 2500 T20I runs.
Chattogram T20I: Jos Buttler scored 67 runs
Chattogram hosted that T20I match, where the hosts sent the visitors to bat first. English captain and opener Jos Buttler provided a solid start for the visitors as he and his opening partner, Phil Salt, set up an 80-run partnership in 10 overs for the first wicket.
When Hasan Mahmud dismissed Buttler in 16.1 overs, the right-handed batter already scored 67 runs off 42 balls (four fours and four sixes). However, his English team managed an ordinary T20I total of 156/6 in 20 overs.
Bangladesh chased down the 157 runs target in 18 overs after losing four wickets. Najmul Hossain Shanto was the star for the hosts with 51 runs off 30 balls (eight fours), while the skipper Shakib Al Hasan scored 34 not out off 24 balls (six fours).
With that victory, the hosts Bangladesh have taken a 1-0 lead in this series.
Wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler completed 2500 T20I runs
At the end of that game, Buttler scored 2669 runs in 104 T20Is. Among those, he scored 2561 T20I runs as a wicketkeeper-batter (84 innings). During that series-opener Chattogram T20I, Buttler not only put behind Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan in the race of leading T20I run-scorer as a wicketkeeper-batter (both were fighting on exactly 2494 T20I runs as a wicketkeeper-batter), the English cricketer also became the first to reach the T20I milestone of scoring 2500 runs as a wicketkeeper-batter.
To date, only three wicketkeeper-batters have scored at least 2000 T20I runs. These names are as follows:
