DEN vs TUN Match Preview
Denmark will wear a special kit made by Hummel in protest of the human rights abuses of migrant workers in the host nation if FIFA does not pressurize its football association to backtrack on that as they have done with the ‘One Love’ armband campaign. This only goes to show the valor of the team that came together after their talisman Christian Eriksen suffered a major health scare in the Euros last year. The scene of him donning the national shirt again in a major competition will be emotional and recharging at the same time. Now him on the side, Denmark will like to create more dominance like their run to the semi-finals of that tournament. The spirit translated to the qualification for the 2022 World Cup where they were unbeaten at the time they sealed a group stage berth. A decent Nations League campaign, beating France among the positive results achieved, shows Kasper Hjulmand’s side is more than ready for Tuesday’s opener against Tunisia. They will face the Les Blues for the third time this year in the second group stage game of the showpiece event. So, a good start is required. With great quality in the squad although a little drop-off in the striking position, Denmark are branded as the dark horse for the tournament. They have not moved beyond the round of 16 stages in the World Cup till now. Against Tunisia, they will wish to get the win on board to generate early confidence in breaking the duck off the last 16 stages. Also, a welcoming boost ahead of facing France in a potential group decider.
Tunisia, among the five African nations qualified for the 2022 World Cup, are in sublime form heading into the tournament. The Carthage Eagles have lost only one game in their last seven games. The sole defeat was also recently against a talented Brazil squad who outdid them 5-1 back in September. Tunisia finished top in their group and edged Mali 1-0 over two legs in the final qualification round to reach their sixth World Cup. Despite managing his team to the tournament in Qatar, coach Mondher Kebair signed for a club in Morocco two months back to leave the charge for Jalel Kadri. Unlike Mondher, Kadri was not a professional player but has the experience of managing a host of clubs in the Middle East and also has been an assistant coach in the national team in 2013. Now as a coach, Kadri will hope to make Tunisia solid in this tough group containing Denmark, defending champions France and Australia. Facing Denmark in the opening group stage is difficult for the side haven’t qualified for the knockouts at all in their competition history. Considering their opposition are unbeaten against every African nation they faced in the competition, it makes it even harder. They will like to be defensively stringent for this and try to be more ambitious against Australia in the next game to have some chance of escaping the group.
